WELCOME

Welcome to Chateau Mariposa, where rest, relaxation and fun awaits in North Weeki Wachee, Florida! Two and a half acres just a little off the beaten path, but close to modern amenities. Beautiful spaces with our guests in mind!  Starlink internet - YES! There is no shortage of sweet spots (inside & out) to hang. This area boasts great springs for kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming or manatee watching.  Weeki Wachee, Crystal River, Homosassa & Rainbow River to name a few! Home to the one-and-only live mermaids!

WHAT MAKES MARIPOSA MAGICAL

"Mariposa is unique" - we get this a LOT!  People love her one-of-a-kind door, but that's not all that makes her special.  In fact, we invited a group of friends over for an Open House and they had trouble deciding which part was their fave! She has wonderful windows that let in a lot of light. The dark wood (floors and ceiling beams) are a striking contrast to the light filled spaces.  Did I mention we have places to hang?  Mariposa invites you to hang-out whatever room you're in.  There is a large, eat-in kitchen with some games and plenty of decks of cards, a formal dining room and living room.  Outside you have the courtyard with plenty of seating to talk, stream TV or listen to some tunes!  In the backyard, there is the beautiful firepit area with Adirondack chairs, hammocks and swings.  The back porch that runs the whole length of the back of the house is where you'll find the grill, Traeger smoker, and more seating for good measure!

GUEST AREAS

Guests have the run of the whole property outside and all of the main house.  Hosts are on property, with their sweet, ole rescue pup, Weegee, in the guest suite off of the courtyard. There is a shared (w/the hosts) laundry (off the courtyard) that guests will have access to by using the same code they use to access the main house. Laundry is located right inside the door of the suite and guests are welcome to do their laundry. Hosts may be in the yard (usually to water plants or let Weegee out), but we make ourselves pretty scarce as to respect our guest's privacy and not impose on their special time at Mariposa.

COMMUNITY

Chateau Mariposa is in an agricultural/rural community, nestled among the trees, giving a feeling of seclusion, even though you are close to modern amenities. The  Dollar General and Publix is just up the road a bit for those last minute grocery needs (2-3 miles) and there is an Anytime Fitness, liquor store and a few other stores in the Publix shopping plaza as well. (on US19/Commercial Way).  If you drive just a few more miles, you will encounter restaurants, shopping, etc.   Some of our fave things about this area are the farm and wildlife we encounter. NOTE: We are within a 12 mile radius considered "BEAR COUNTRY", although we have yet to see a bear. That would be quite the site! There are beautiful horses who come right up to the fence on one side of the property. We have a resident Gopher Tortoise - Sir Sheldon - on the premises.  He makes guest appearances from time-to-time.  Mariposa (Butterflies), the properties namesake, is due to the many butterflies that call the chateau home.  We have seen multiple swallowtails, monarchs, cloudless sulphurs, and the zebra longwing butterflies...to name a few.  The bird watching is pretty fine too.  We love to watch the pileated woodpecker (the biggest of the species boasting sizes from 16-19" tall).

NOTE

We are in a wooded area and with woods come bugs, but we spray regularly.  If you encounter a bug inside the house, let us know and we will contact our pest service.  The palmettos, courtyard and around the house are sprayed once a month, during peak mosquito months, and we have mosquito traps (red & black) hanging on trees by the hammocks, on the fence behind shed & in the beach stuffs closet.

PARKING

Parking is easy peasy at the Chateau.  The large half-circle drive and a concrete parking pad accommodates multiple vehicles. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE ONTO, TURN AROUND IN, OR PARK IN THE YARD. You could damage the sprinkler system. Hosts park on the parking pad on the east side of the house. One note of caution, when on Blanks St, if you pass Ehrenwald Dr, Blanks basically turns into a sand road and a vehicle without four-wheel drive may get stuck.
